Doing Windows 2.2

I am happy to announce the availability of another feature update of the window cleaner assistant app. Besides having German localisation the following has been added:
  • Breaks. We all need a week off now and then. Any individual job or complete round that is finished is automatically scheduled by their repeat cycle and it just keeps going. You can now schedule an upcoming break in your planning. All automatically scheduled jobs and rounds will be moved automatically to accommodate the week(s) you are blocking for a holiday or other major event.
When you decide to cancel an upcoming break and delete it from your planning all jobs and rounds are moved back to the original schedule according to their repeat cycle.
  • Jobs per customer. You can now also view, add, edit, and delete jobs defined for a customer when viewing the customer. Since you can view the customer via the To Do list you can also access the job details from there. This will make all a lot easier to make adjustments quickly. You can still access the complete list of all jobs as this now can be found via 'More'.
  • Time duration. You can now specify the time you expect a job to take. This time will be displayed in the To Do list per job, as a total per round, and as a total per week.
This update is free of charge to all users who have bought a previous version of Doing Windows.

Doing Gardens

I am happy to announce the release of a new iOS business app, similar to the one for windows cleaners, but going in a different direction.

Doing Gardens is kept as simple as possible and will benefit many gardeners who do garden maintenance for customers and want an easy way of keeping their schedule and track their customer payments.

Like with the other apps I would like to invite users to be open about their sincere suggestions for future improvements, as these help to make the app a better one with each update.

Doing Windows 2.1

Several days ago the 2.0 version was released on the App Store. It is a major update and, although it was tested extensively, a bug slipped through. It is fixed with version 2.1.

What happened? Well, when a job, which is attached to a round, has been edited its repeat cycle is unset. Then when the list of jobs is loaded the app crashes at finding an unset repeat cycle while counting the jobs of the various repeat cycles.

My sincere apologies for all the users that encountered this issue. The update with the bug fix is available and can be downloaded from the App Store.

What else is included in this version? I received a request from a professional window cleaner in Sweden who asked to have it in Swedish, so with his help Doing Windows now also works with that additional language.

And as an added bonus there is also a link with the iOS maps app for the jobs that appear in the 'To Do' list. When you tap on a job there is now an extra option 'Route Here' on the Job Info screen, and when selected feeds the job customer address to the maps app and will trigger it to show the route from your current location to the customer address. This might come in handy when you are not so much familiar with the area.

Doing Windows 2.0

Soon version 2.0 will be on its way to the App Store. I have been working on this version for several weeks and I am quite happy about the new features that it has. In alphabetical order the following three topics are added:
  • Mileage: keep track of your vehicles' business miles on a daily basis. This will be helpful to see how much you can claim back later as travel costs for your tax calculations.
  • Prospects: keep records of potential customers, perhaps while canvassing or other methods you are using, and because you are just awesome in your work you turn them into customers.
  • Rounds: jobs with the same cycle can be grouped and scheduled together, which makes it easier to adjust your planning and also keeps your to-do-list more tidy. Now, when you want to take a break or go on a holiday because your business runs so well, you simply change the date of some rounds and you are set.
The inclusion of mileage registration is because of some users have requested it. I can fully understand the reasons for wanting such a feature added. For one, it is another reason not needing a notebook in your glove compartment. And you can see what you spend each month and export the total list to whatever app you want to use to process the details further.

I wanted to have something to keep better track of my canvassing results, as I kept a notebook but after some time it became cluttered and I needed to browse a lot to find certain streets. Now with the feature to be able to record prospect details it will all be in one place and easier to search through and update. It is very basic but helpful.

Particularly the rounds have quite an impact on the app and I want to make sure it is properly tested before the new version will be released. I am sure the many users of the app that have quite a number of customers to provide their services to on a regular basis will be happy with this feature.

I look forward to hear your experiences on how you benefit using the new functions.

Doing Windows Well Received

It has been a year since Doing Windows became available at the Apple App Store.

The first version was a solid one as I used it for my own business and made things simpler on the admin side. I am happy to see the app is well received and many users in the UK, the USA, and Australia say they benefit a lot from the app. I have received very positive feedback from users everywhere and their suggestions to improve the app has made Doing Windows a better app with each update.

I like to thank you all for your support and I welcome good suggestions for future updates.
